Cyclone Fani is expected to intensify into extremely severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday night. It is also likely to make a landing in Odisha coast by Friday afternoon, the India Meteorological Department said today. It added that the cyclone lays over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, and is about 830 km nearly south of Puri in Odisha and 670 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. It is very likely to intensify further into an extremely severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours. It is very likely to move northwestwards till May 1 evening and thereafter recurve north-northeastwards and reach Odisha coast by May 3 afternoon with maximum sustained wind of speed 170-180 kilometers per hour gusting to 200 kmph, the IMD statement said. The Indian Coast Guard and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are already on high alert The wind speed of a cyclonic storm is about 80-90 kilometres per hour with wind gusting up to nearly 100 kmph. During an extremely severe cyclonic storm, the wind speed rises to 170-180 kmph and the speed may increase to 195-200 kmph. During next 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall in some places with heavy falls at isolated areas is expected over Kerala, anorth coastal Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh . Heavy rainfall is expected over north coastal Andhra Pradesh on Thursday and light to moderate rainfall at some places with heavy to very heavy rainfall couple of other plces the next day. Odisha may receive light to moderate rainfall at some places from Thursday.
